I know it has been a long while since i posted to the blog, but I have been pretty crazy busy at work and home. Catherine and I have started the process of having a new home built, so that does take a good chunk of our free time. At the advice of my family doctor, I have contacted the Ohio State University Medical Center Department of Bariatric surgery to continue the process to get me back into surgery someday. My new surgeon Dr. Dean Mikami, actually has experience doing Laproscopic procedures with patients up to 500 lbs (which is about 50 pounds away). Because of my complications with infections, he highly recommends we do the surgery Laproscopically which means I am on the diet/exercise trail.
There are many advantages to having the operation this way including
- Only 2 days stay in the hospital
- much less pain after surgery
- Ability to return to work in about 4 weeks after surgery
- little or no chance of hernia since the incisions are only about 1/4 inch long
- Much less succeptibility to infections
Dr. Mikami has also sent me to the OSU wellness center for enrollment in a weight management program that utilizes suppliments ("liquid diet") as well as exercise and medical monitoring to help patients lose weight fast. The good thing here is once I lose the weight, I just have the surgery rather than have to worry about the weight coming back. I start that program with a physical on the 16th of this month.
Again, I really appreciate everyone's support and wish everyone the best.
Jimmy
